Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in Volunteering for Maine Paws for Veterans.

One of the more well-known benefits of volunteering is the impact on the community. Volunteering allows you to connect to your community and make it a better place. Even helping out with the smallest tasks can make a real difference to the lives of people, animals, and organizations in need. And volunteering is a two-way street: Dedicating your time as a volunteer helps you make new friends, expand your network, and boost your social skills.

If you would like further information on volunteer opportunities please fill and submit the Maine Paws for Veterans volunteer application.

Short Term Fostering Program

MPfV often has the opportunity to receive qualified rescue or re-homed dogs with the anticipation of placing them with a veteran in an upcoming class.  During this 30-90 day period, it is a perfect time to introduce the foster dog to your home environment and enjoy all the fun socializing the dog as the MPfV Staff plan to place it with their forever veteran in the upcoming class.  Please contact our team at info@mainepawsforveterans.org if you are interested in this volunteering opportunity.

Long Term Fostering Program

In some cases, MPfV has the opportunity to receive a suitable dog several months before a new veteran/canine training class starts.  This gives the volunteer an extended time to enjoy socializing, training, and introducing the dog to your home environment before placement with the veteran.  Long-term fostering opportunities generally run for 3 to 6 months.  Please contact our team at info@mainepawsforveterans.org if you are interested in this volunteering opportunity.

Raise 2 Train Program

Raise 2 Train is our newest foster program.  A qualified person/family volunteers to raise and participate in training classes with a suitable puppy. MPfV covers all expenses as the volunteer raises and socializes the puppy in a home environment for 10-12 months.  After this time it is our goal to place a pre-trained puppy with a forever veteran so they may start their training and bonding.  This is a very rewarding foster program as the veteran begins their training with a wonderfully pre-trained dog. Please contact our team at info@mainepawsforveterans.org if you are interested in this volunteering opportunity.

More ways you can help…

Maine Paws for Veterans has opportunities for individuals after a little training to work with our veterans during the weekly dog and veteran training classes. Responsibilities may include assisting a veteran with having a dog adapt to encountering other people, helping to demonstrate a specific task, or helping a veteran's stress level by being a weekly familiar person that they can speak with. Additional opportunities include working with the staff to prepare for the classes by conducting home visits with another person to certify that each veteran is able to care for their dog. Please contact our team at info@mainepawsforveterans.org if you are interested in this volunteering opportunity.
